Growing up in Colorado, much of my childhood was spent exploring the Colorado Rookies.  Weekends were spent hiking through the mountains or boating in the lakes, gathering an understanding of the natural world around me and the animals that inhabit it.

For a short time, my family housed a boat in our garage, which provided an imaginative refuge and a source of inspiration for my future work. Coupled with my observations of animals and the landscape, boats also became features in my ceramic sculptures to indicate transition or the passage of time.

The surface of my sculptures become a canvas on which to create an alternative imaginary landscape.  The animal form provides a narrative surface, which allows me to explore my ideas about our environment and fears about death. The innocent and familiar animal form becomes my witness and the protector of my stories.
